At 9,00 h. pick-up from your hotel and departure to Plovdiv - Bulgaria's second largest city. It has a 24-centuries long history as one of the ancient crossroads between East and West. Sightseeing tour to show you the proofs of its glorious history - the Roman amphitheatre, the Forum, the Old Plovdiv and its National Revival architecture (from 18th - 19thc). Lunch at a cozy restaurant in the Old town with menu of specialties from the local Rhodope cuisine. Then take a walk on the main shopping pedestrian street Stargaloto and after that continue the excursion to Bachkovo Monastery and Assenova Fortress at the foot of Rodope Mountain. Founded in 1083 by the Georgian borders Grigorii and Abasii Bakuriani, today the monastery is a cultural monument with national significance. Amidst the colorful architecture and amazing nature surroundings you can marvel the masterly painted murals and icons dating from 11th to 19th centuries masterpieces of the Bulgarian painting schools and works of one of the best masters Zahari Zograf. The mediaeval Assenova Fortress is situated at 3 km south of the town Assenovgrad and is perched on a rocky hill above the left bank of Assenina river. Its most important site, preserved well till our days is the church Holly Mother of Petrich /13th c./. The architectural elegance, exquisite decoration on the southern facade , as well as the unique frescos from 14th century rank it among the best examples of the mediaeval Bulgarian church architecture. In the afternoon drive back to Sofia arrival at the hotel about 18,30 19,00 h.
